On September 21, World Alzheimer’s Day is celebrated.
We don’t forget, Alzheimer’s month. During this month of Alzheimer’s, activities are carried out to raise awareness and help prevent this mental illness.
At Maes we want to publicize the disease and disseminate information on it, requesting the support and solidarity of the general population, institutions and official bodies.
Alzheimer’s is already considered the new epidemic of the 21st century for demographic, clinical and social reasons… It is a problem of all, because the dependence it generates affects not only the sick, but also its nearest environment.
Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia that affects memory, thinking and behavior. Clinically, it is a neurodegenerative disease that occurs with significant problems of recent memory, as a result of the deposits of amyloid, abnormal proteins that appear in our brain, causing the progressive and irreversible degeneration of our neurons.
This disease is the most common cause of dementia. Fortunately, thanks to advances in science and medicine, our life expectancy far exceeds 80 years. If there’s one thing we’re sure of right now, it’s that, thanks to clinical research, we will be able to live longer and longer, something that we all aspire to whenever we can enjoy a good quality of life, but this aging will certainly increase cases of Alzheimer’s disease more and more.
We invite you tod@s to participate in this work in support of the individuals and families suffering from this disease, and help us raise awareness. And special support for the caregivers and relatives of the sick: they are always at their side, always on call, many leave their work, most change their lifestyle and way of life to give themselves to them, do not rest or enjoy holidays… They’re actually the main protagonists.
We don’t forget, Alzheimer’s month. We’re with you.
